Gerard Geer of Melbourne Australia merges his creativity with chemistry and anatomy in his artistic pieces . Geer utilizes a combination  of animal specimens and amalgamations of   forms to create fantastical hybrid creatures and intricate landscapes. Geer is self-taught in all of the techniques he uses in creating his artworks.  I chose his work because I haven't seen anything even remotely similar to what he is doing and I believe that its so odd that its endearing. His work is really original and just fun to look at it almost is like taking you back to your childhood when you would create magical creatures in your dreams, but in real life. His work looks almost flawless and kind of fools you into believing that what you're looking at is real.

Down These Mean Streets: Community and Place in Urban Photography Americas urban streets have always inspired documentary photographers. After world war  II, the populations of the cities moved to the suburbs newly built highways started to cut through the thriving neighborhoods  and left parts of the major cities isolated. As these neighborhoods started to decline in the 1950s these photographers found inspiration in the changing cities and their inhabitants. Down these Mean Streets: Community and Place in Urban Photography is a exhibit driven by ten photographers Manuel Acevedo, Oscar Castillo, Frank Espada, Anthony Hernandez, Perla de Leon, Hiram Maristany, Ruben Ochoa, Winston Vargas and Camilo Jose Vergara. I think the concept of the exhibit is so cool. The way people act during changes is very unique to the person and the place they are in. The way you react to something is different  to the way your sixty year old grandmother reacts to something. I think...

Map Artists

Image
Mathew Cusick:  Is a multimedia artist that usually works in collage, painting and book art but his most renowned work is the pieces he makes with maps. He works in Dallas Texas, he once discovered a box full of old maps in his studio which sparked an idea in him, he  began to experiment and was immediately fascinated with the possibilities he was struck with and continues to work with the media today.         Nikki Rosato:  Nikki Rosato makes her works mostly based off of her belief that maps are remarkably human and uses their lines and patterns to make figural pieces based on the human form. There seems to be a theme in her artwork that displays two people connecting , in some way, usually by their mind or skull.            Shannon Rankin: I create installations, collages and sculptures that use the language of maps to explore the connections among geological and biological processes, patterns in na...

Banksy

Image
Banksy is an anonymous street artist in England. His art mostly has a dark humor to it, his work has a lot to do with political and social some-tsk and ideas. I’ve watched videos describing his work as  in a sense, almost mocking the art world. He also places his work in very public ‘viewable’ places which I feel in a way ties into the art. Recently Bank’s piece entitled ‘Girl with Balloon’ was put up for auction at a London art market. The piece was sold to the highest bidder for 1.4 million dollars. Immediately after the piece was sold the people in the auction would see the painting self destruct, and shred itself. After the shredding a video  was released on Banksy’s Instagram showing a video of how he built the shredder into the painting. I think what Banksy did with his work was revolutionary, and kind of a big slap in the face to the art community. I feel like he did what he did to the painting to say something, something that seems to have so much value can be tak...

Miguel Angel Belinchon

Image
Miguel Angel Belinchon is a 39 year old artist born in Spain. His work mostly consists of hyper realism, which he displays as graffiti and murals around different suburban landscapes. He incorporates different line and technique into his displays of human features in different perspective, just like we are doing currently in class. He uses different compositions to incorporate the different features aand perspectives of a person to make them. Hes inspired a lot of artists to do what he is doing and incorporate older styles into their newer art work, as Belin is doing incorporating Pablo Picassos  style into his artwork. I think his work is super cool, I love how it works so well  but also looks so different. I think its a really cool thing that he expresses himself and also showing it to other people. The way his art works is so interesting and cool that its just fun to look at and just enjoy.
