Free Blog

The artist I chose for the free blog is Semiok in instagram. He’s a street artist from turkey. His are very cartoony and bright and a lot of them feature characters from different shows or movies. What I really love about his art is how he incorporates the surrounding of the pieces. It isn’t just a flat piece but something about it is real and in in your face to make it part of the scene.

3D Printed Artwork

Image
Danny van Ryswyk Ryswyk creates all of his work on 3d software on his computer. He says working on the program is almost like working with clay but digitally. He works on his wacom tablet. Once the sculptures are printed he begins to paint the details in. Most of his works are really eerie looking, which is what I personally enjoy most cause it's weird and I like weird stuff.    Gilles Azzaro Azzaro is a French digital artist. He uses 'cutting edge" technology to create 3D images of people's voices. He magnifies the images and makes them into almost lunar like landscapes out of 3D words. They kind of remind me of minecraft if I'm being honest. But they also look a lot like stalactites on the insides of caves.

Frank Stella

Frank Stella is an American printer, painter and sculptor most commonly known for his minimalistic style and abstraction. Stella lives and works in New York city. In his early work you will mostly see really geometric pieces with either lots or little color, that are usually done 2d. However as time passes you can see that his work begins to be extremely expressive and shifts from 2d to 3d and begins to get very abstract, in your face almost.

Yarn Bimbing

Yarn bombing is when a person knits pretty much a little sweater for something we all see in everyday life, whether that be a stop sign pole a fire hydrant, a door handle and the list goes on. I really like this concept, and the idea of bringing something that’s so random but everyone knows into our towns and cities. One thing that the presenter didn’t mention was how the fact that it’s hand made helps mold the outsides view on the piece. When we look out in our cities and towns we see all these street signs and telephone poles, we don’t really see it as something someone made, but when someone adds a simple little sweater to something it sticks out from the rest, someone made that. I love this idea on the smaller scales but I’m not sure how i feel about the larger scale because it kind of loses the hand made look. It’s hard to think that someone covered an entire bus with knitting. Overall the concept of yarn bombing is super cool to me and I think it’s a wonderful idea

Diptychs are pieces of art that are one but they open almost like a book to reveal the entire piece. A triptych has the same idea in that it is one piece of art, one picture and it opens up into three panels which have one part of the whole image on them. This is an example of a diptych. It as a whole is one picture but each section has a different part of the scene. There is unity in that the entire piece is one the ‘walls’ in between each scene  disconnect each part yet you can see that it is one scene. There is a lack of contrast though, the whole thing looks rather the same, each has pretty much the same tone and not one part of the piece is more emphasized than another. This is an example of a triptych. There is one picture spread across the three panels. Like in the diptych there isn’t more emphasis on one part of the piece than any other. There is great unity, it all comes together to make one full piece. There is a lot less movement in this piece compared to the ot...

Movement

Image
There are lots of ways that artists can use movement in their art. Most of the art that U have seen that incorporates movement are with sculptures that can be interpreted in multiple ways when you stand in a different perspective, evident in some of Michael Murphy’s work, such as his sculpture of a giraffe and at another perspective it is an elephant. Other artists like Alexander Calder have the actual piece move, Calder makes mobiles that have movement of each piece. Tim Prentice creates the illusion of movement in his sculptures, they are extremely fluid and look like a picture captured in the flesh. In my town there is a piece of artwork in one of the parks that moves as it rains and resembles a blooming flower.

Social Justice

Image
Social Justice is essentially the concept that everyone no matter what race, sexuality, religion etc. should be equal. Yet in our current social media and all accepting society a lot of those who preach social justice incorrectly, pretty much making it seem like an anti-white thing. The people who preach stuff like this are often uneducated, but there are people who preach the correct thing, which is what social justice is, equality for all. The people who preach it incorrectly do it at a cost, and aren’t taken seriously by people who might not agree, and then in return get a bad rep for the community they are representing. Damon Davis is a multimeadia artist and film maker. He tacklers the topic of social justice in his public art installation, ‘All Hands on Deck.’ He photographs the hands of different who helped him crate All Hands on Deck. They are the people who have shaped and upheld his movement and, he says, they deserve to be known, seen, heard and validated. All Hands on Dec...
