Diptychs are pieces of art that are one but they open almost like a book to reveal the entire piece. A triptych has the same idea in that it is one piece of art, one picture and it opens up into three panels which have one part of the whole image on them.

This is an example of a diptych. It as a whole is one picture but each section has a different part of the scene. There is unity in that the entire piece is one the ‘walls’ in between each scene  disconnect each part yet you can see that it is one scene. There is a lack of contrast though, the whole thing looks rather the same, each has pretty much the same tone and not one part of the piece is more emphasized than another.

This is an example of a triptych. There is one picture spread across the three panels. Like in the diptych there isn’t more emphasis on one part of the piece than any other. There is great unity, it all comes together to make one full piece. There is a lot less movement in this piece compared to the other one. Instead of having an entire scene this is just one static object, you can’t really see any movement, though we all know crocodiles move, this piece kids of campfires on moment and keeps it as is, and i like the simplicity of it.
