    Joseph Cornell was an American visual artist and film-maker. Cornell's most characteristic works were assemblage boxes made from objects he found. He also explored the medium of collage however is most recognized for the boxes mentioned before. 

    Cornell considered himself a surrealist. He lived most of his life in isolation caring for his sickly mother.
