Allyson Grey

Image
Allyson Grey is a 66 year old artist, from Baltimore Maryland. Allyson is a painter and has been an art educator and organizer for most of her life. The one word I think of when I see her work is 'trippy'. Her work has loads of different colors are patterns and is a great example of most of the principles of art. When you step back away from her work you see the entire thing as one big harmonious piece of work and then you can go up close and notice all of the fine lining and detail it has, all of it works together to make an entire picture. Everything is very well put together. I like how her art is really vibrant and fun.

Carolyn Lawrence

Carolyn Lawrence is an African American artist born in 1940 and is active in Chicago Illinois, she is a founding member of the artist collective Africoba an African-American artists'collective formed in Chicago of 1968. The subjects her work seems to be based on are rather political such as Racial Views, Cultural Issues and many more. I really like how her work has a message behind it and how its out there and political, I love how its carefree. I like how she incorporates phrases in her work, it adds emphasis to the otherwise blank background. Her work also has a lot of movement to it. I also love the bold and contrasting colors throughout all of her pieces.

Kara Walker

Kara Walker is an American artist born in Stockton California in 1969. Her work is usuallydark silhouettes against a light background. I this her work is super cool and dainty, i like how simple it is. I like how the silhouettes are so emphasized, against the background. I also love the content, how the actions of the silhouettes don’t all feel the same, there’s a variety, some really happy and others that are rather dark and eerie, it’s a nice contrast .
